Notaries Can Now Update Signer Names Inside Session

One of the most common issues during a notarization session is a mismatch between the name entered when the session was created and the name shown on the signer's verified government-issued ID. This could be something as simple as a missing middle initial, a maiden name, or a minor spelling difference.

Previously, correcting a signer's name required the signer to update their own information, which could interrupt the flow of the session and create unnecessary back-and-forth.
Now, notaries can now edit a participant's name directly from the Participants panel after the signer has successfully completed identity verification. This allows the notary to quickly ensure the session reflects the signer's verified identity without requiring the signer to make the change themselves.

This feature is especially useful for correcting:

  • Missing or incorrect middle names or initials
  • Maiden or married names
  • Minor spelling mistakes
  • Formatting or capitalization differences
  • Any other small discrepancies between the entered name and the verified ID

By allowing notaries to make these corrections during the session, the process becomes faster, more accurate, and less disruptive for everyone involved.

How It Works

  1. The signer completes identity verification successfully.
  2. Open the Participants ID & Status panel during the session.
  3. Edit the participant's name so it matches their verified identification.
  4. Save the changes and continue the session. Updated name will reflect on the panel and everywhere else.

The updated name will be reflected throughout the session, helping ensure your notarization records accurately match the signer's verified identity while keeping the signing experience smooth and efficient.

Note: Once a signer has successfully completed identity verification, it is the notary's responsibility to ensure the participant's name accurately matches the verified government-issued ID. Since notaries can now make these updates directly from the Participants panel, BlueNotary Support will no longer process routine name change requests for completed identity verification. Please verify and update the name during the session before proceeding with the notarization.
