Reopen vs. Redo a Completed Session for Business Notary

Business Notary accounts have two options for handling a completed session: Reopen and Redo. While both allow you to work with a completed session again, they serve different purposes.

Go to Session Summary Page of the Session you want to edit and find the two option.

Note: Only the assigned Notary can perform the Reopen or Redo action. Business administrator cannot reopen or redo completed sessions themselves.

Reopen Session

Use Reopen Session when only minor corrections are needed after a session has been completed.

  • Reopens the completed session without starting over.
  • Allows the Notary to make minor administrative edits, such as correcting information.
  • Regenerates the final documents after the necessary changes are made.
  • Does not require the signer to repeat identity verification, KBA, signing, or the notarization process.
  • Intended only for minor corrections, not for redoing the notarization.

Redo Session

Use Redo Session when the completed session needs to be performed again from the beginning.

  • Starts a brand-new notarization session from scratch.
  • Requires the signer to complete the entire notarization process again.
  • The signer must complete identity verification, KBA (if required), document review, electronic signatures, acknowledgments, and all other required session steps again.
  • Creates an afresh session.
  • Use this option when the original session cannot be corrected through minor edits and must be completed again from the beginning.

Choosing the Right Option:

Use Reopen Session when you only need to make minor corrections to a completed session without requiring the signer to participate again. If the notarization must be completed from the beginning, choose Redo Session. This will create a new session and require the signer to repeat all required steps, including identity verification, KBA (if applicable), document signing, and the notarization process
